Coach Tim D is a USAW level 2 coach and Olympic weighlifter. His love of the sport started in high school where he competed in junior nationals and then joined the Northern Arizona University weightlifting team. He took a silver medal in the 1993 collegiate nationals and has continued to compete in various meets throughout the years. He is now finding success in this sport as he has transitioned into the master's division and obtained coaching certification along with his wife Tara. Tim's experience and knowledge along with his true passion for coaching, training, and mentoring will lead you to success in weightlifting.
On a personal note, he has worked for two large valley churches serving as a High School Youth Director for one and on the elder board of the other. He has organized and participated in mission trips such as building homes for the poor in Mexico and was sent to represent his church nationally in a major conference. Throughout his time at NAU, he volunteered for Big Brothers in Flagstaff and later coached youth soccer for five years in Gilbert. Tim is a retired Phoenix Police Officer who has worked South Phoenix and Central City for twenty years and is now able to devote himself fulltime to the sport of weightlifting and coaching. His faith in the Lord is interwoven in all areas of his life and he is excited for this next chapter. He is married to Tara. She works for a school district, is finishing her master's degree in Christian counseling, and also holds her weightlifting coach certification through USAW. Together they have four children in high school and college.
There is a fee for lifting sessions and coaching. If you decide to compete in a weightlifting meet, additional fees will apply and USAW membership is needed. Contact us for details.
